World number one Novak Djokovic has apologised for his misdirected outburst during his Miami Open win over Andy Murray, saying that he had no intention to hurt the ball boy, who was caught in the middle of the unfortunate incident.

While Djokovic picked up a towel offered by one of the volunteers, he aggressively yelled in frustration towards his supporter box after losing the second set to Murray in a gruelling contest.

The Serbian was given a violation by the chair umpire and subsequently argued that the official would not have been able to understand what was said. However, the umpire told Djokovic 'it didn't look good'.

The five-time Miami winner, after the match, said that he saw the replay, and unfortunately the ball boy was in the middle of it, adding that he really felt sorry and regret that he was there, News.com.au reported.

Djokovic further said that he wanted to apologise to the boy's parents as well for this situation, adding that as a father he wouldn't wish something like that happen to his son.
