World number one Novak Djokovic has vowed to return stronger to bag the elusive clay-court title of Paris despite losing out to Stanislas Wawrinka in the French Open final on Sunday.

Eighth seed Wawrinka magnificently recovered from a set down to beat Djokovic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in an enthralling contest that lasted three hours and 12 minutes.

The defeat brought an end to Djokovic's 28-match winning streak and also thwarted the Serbian's hopes of securing a career Grand Slam.

The Serbian said that he was proud of the fight that he put into this match, insisting that it gives him even more motivation to come back and keep on trying, Sport24 reported.

In the light of his performance, Djokovic said it wasn't easy to stand there as a runner-up again, but admitted that he lost to a better player who played some courageous tennis and deserved to win.

Djokovic has so far won five Australian Opens, two Wimbledon titles and one at the US Open.
