Doctor Who's Bill Potts to be show's first openly gay companion

Now this is a news to wait for! Doctor Who is all set to have a first to be openly gay companion Bill Potts.

According to the Guardian, Pearl Mackie, who plays Bill Potts in the upcoming series, told the BBC that her character's openness about her sexuality was important to represent onscreen, but not her defining characteristic.

On this note, though gay characters have been featured in the show in the past, it was never a full-time companions previously.

The first episode of Mackie, in 'Doctor Who,' will be aired on April 15.
