Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Somnath Bharti was today sent to three-day police custody in connection with the domestic violence and attempt to murder case filed against him by his wife Lipika Mitra.
"Today, the Delhi Police asked for five days of police custody for my client and had added Section 212 against him. We told the court that the Section is bailable and remand cannot be given in this," Bharti's lawyer Vijay Aggarwal told the media here.
"Somnath Bharti told the court that ACP asked him to disrobe during police interrogation when asked whether he faced any problem during the remand. The court has, however, not taken any action against this...The court has ordered a remand of three days in police custody to Somnath Bharti," he added.
Bharti had moved the apex court seeking protection from arrest in the case and a direction to restrain the Delhi Police from arresting him till his plea challenging the High Court order is decided.
