Halle Berry, who volunteers with the Jenesse Center, the oldest domestic violence intervention program in Los Angeles, has revealed that she is a victim of domestic violence.
The 48-year-old actress said at unite4:good's unite4:humunity gala, where she was honored for work with the center, that she wasn't married to a man that beat her up, but her mother was, E! Online reported.
The 'X-Men' star, who watched her mom get kicked down stairs and hit in the head with a wine bottle when she wasn't looking, added that knowing that her mom wanted nothing more than for her little girls to see her be empowered and be a woman of strength, but having no way to make that happen was heartbreaking for Berry.
Berry, who has suffered the damage of being a child of domestic violence, continued that her mother stayed for too long and her children, she and her sister, saw far too much.
Berry, who began working with Jenesse 15 years ago, concluded that the reason she says this organization is her heart and soul is because she understands the good that it does and the lives that it changes and the impact it has on women and the children in the community.
