After being knocked out of the ongoing World Twenty20 tournament in India, South African coach Russell Domingo has admitted that he is puzzled by his side's poor performance on the big stage.
The Proteas' hopes of winning their first international title were dented after they suffered a three-wicket defeat at the hands of West Indies in their third group match at Vidarbha Cricket Stadium in Nagpur.
However, Faf du Plesiss's side signed off their World T20 campaign with a comfortable eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka in their dead rubber contest in Delhi.
Domingo admitted that his side were failing to play well in the big tournaments, but urged the cricket fans to understand that his team had lost some key players in last few years,Sport24 reported.
Domingo, whose current contract expires in April 2017, also expressed his desire to continue as the Proteas coach and achieve big thing with the team.
Apart from their Champions Trophy victory in 1998, South Africa have never bagged a major ICC tournament title since their post-apartheid return in 1991.
