'Drummer' PM Modi gushes about vibrant Meghalaya

Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is on his maiden visit to Meghalaya, turned into a tourist as he was seen taking in the scenic beauty of the state on Saturday and praising about how vibrant the region was.

Taking to twitter to talk about his visit, the Prime Minister posted pictures and videos of him showing off his musical side, as he joined the local musicians in playing the drums and other instruments.

"First they taught me how to play it and then one of them patted me on the back. A special moment. Honoured and humbled. No bigger privilege than being lauded by the people of the nation," the Prime Minister said.

Gushing about the 'scenic' Elephant falls, he said that when one visits Meghalaya, this place has to be on their 'must visit' list.

"At Mawphlang village, saw parts of the spectacular culture of Meghalaya. The colour and the vibrancy is exceptional," the Prime Minister tweeted.

Earlier today, he tried his hands at drums along with folk dancers at a cultural event organised in his honour at Mawphlang Village, 25 km from Shillong, in East Khasi hills district of Meghalaya.

Mawphlang is famous for the forest having an amazing life form of plants, flowering trees, orchids and butterflies -an ideal destination for nature lovers.

Prime Minister Modi flagged off new passenger trains for northeast and also laid the foundation stone for a football stadium 'Ampati' on Friday.

He also interacted with members of self help groups and laid focus on rural livelihood in north-eastern states.

Addressing the valedictory session of the 65th plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council here, Prime Minister Modi said that the government wants to bring the north-eastern region on a par with other regions of the country.

Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmuganathan, Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma, and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal were also present at the function.
