A Delhi court on Tuesday granted seven days of CBI remand to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Devendra Kumar in Moin Akhtar Qureshi case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had produced Kumar before the Patiala House Court to seek police custody for 10 days. The CBI said, "We have recovered material that needs to be scrutinised and for that we need (his) custody."

While arguing for Kumar's custody, the CBI also told the court that an extortion racket was being organised "in the garb of a CBI probe."

However, Rahul Tyagi, the defence counsel, alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched against his client.

"This is a big conspiracy hatched at the topmost level to kill Moin Qureshi because two former directors are involved," he told ANI.

On Monday, the CBI had arrested Kumar in connection with bribery allegations involving Rakesh Asthana, the investigating agency's Special Director.

A case was registered against Kumar and many others, including Asthana, based on a complaint received by Hyderabad-based businessman Sathish Babu Sana on October 15.

Sana, in his complaint to the CBI, alleged that he had paid over Rs 2 crore in bribe to certain private persons who promised him to get relief in the case.

The complainant further alleged that he was repeatedly summoned by Kumar to appear before him as part of an investigation in the Moin Qureshi case.
