South African Twenty20 captain Faf du Plessis has hailed his teammate Dale Steyn as his 'trump card' after the pacer and JP Duminy's efforts kept their team in the hunt for a semi-final spot at the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.

Duminy notched a 43-ball 86 to lift South Africa to 170-6, before Steyn successfully defended seven runs in the final over to help South Africa win their first match, against New Zealand, by two runs in Group One of the Super-10 stage on Monday.

According to Sport24, praising Steyn, Du Plessis said that he needs to bring Steyn back in the game as the pace bowler is his trump card, while New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum also hailed Steyn's efforts, saying that winning in the final over was difficult against a top bowler like Steyn.

New Zealand finished at 168-2 in their 20 overs, with Ross Taylor making 62 before Steyn ran him out at the non-striker end to spark a South African celebration at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury stadium.

Earlier, Duminy hit ten boundaries and three sixes while Hashim Amla made a resolute 41 to guide South African, who were put in to bat, the report added.
