In a unique Durga Puja celebration, people in Central Kolkata's Nonapukur Lohapatty area have made pandals out of scrap automobile materials and spare parts.
Built at a cost Rs.20 lakhs, the pandal extensively uses motor engines, air conditioned ducts, silencer pipes, mud guards and other spare parts.
The theme of the Durga Puja has been engineered in tune with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's 'safe drive, save life' campaign to spread awareness about vehicular pollution.
The majority of the organisers of this puja committee are traders of automobile spare parts.
In the pandal, the Hindu Demon Mahishasura is resembled as pollution smoke coming out of silencer pipes and goddess Durga is placed over the demon with its trident placed towards Mahishasura.
Even the light used for decorating this pandal, are the colorful headlights of bikes which has made the pandal more attractive for viewing.
