Early trends project BJP wave in Haryana, Maharashtra

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is emerging as the single largest party to form governments in both Haryana and Maharashtra if early vote counting trends are to be gone by.

In the case of Haryana, the political future of 1,351 candidates vying for one of the 90 Haryana Assembly seats will be decided. While the BJP has bagged two seats; the Congress have one seat. The two major parties are leading in 46 and 11 seats respectively.

The Om Prakash Chautala-led Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is leading in 19 seats, while the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) is ahead in two seats and others in eight seats.

In Maharashtra, the results for the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly is also progressing, and as per early trends, the BJP has stolen a march, winning one seat so far, and leading in 108, as against the Congress, which is leading in 45 seats, and has won one seat.

The BJP's former ally, Shiv Sena, has won two seats, and is leading in 54 seats, while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is ahead in 47 seats. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has won one seat and is leading in two, while the others are reportedly leading in 25 seats.

The results for the parliamentary seats of Kandhamal in Odisha and Beed in Maharashtra will also be declared today.

In the Kandhamal parliamentary constituency of Odisha, BJD candidate Pratyusha Rajeswari Singh is reportedly leading by over by one lakh votes against her nearest rival, the BJP's Rudra Madhab Ray.

Simultaneously, counting of votes for the Rajkot (West) Assembly seat in Gujarat shows BJP candidate Vijay Rupani reportedly leading by over 6,000 votes against Congress candidate Jayanti Kalaria.

Votes for the Northern Angami-Two Assembly seat in Nagaland and Kanubari Assembly constituency in Arunachal Pradesh are also being counted today as well.
