American decathlete Ashton Eaton and Ethiopian middle-distance runner Genzebe Dibaba have been announced as IAAF's World Athletes of the Year 2015.

27-year-old Eaton broke his own world record by nine points, scoring 9045 at the world championships in Beijing, Sport24 reported.

Reflecting on his win, Eaton said that he felt honoured to join some of the most talented performers of all time.

Meanwhile, Dibaba, who claimed gold in the 1500m race in the Beijing worlds, admitted that she had a great season and felt proud to be recognized by the experts of the sports.
