The Election Commission of India has issued a notice against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal with relation to the allegations made by him on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi unit chief Satish Upadhyay over power discoms.
The Election Commission has asked Kejriwal to explain the matter by January 20, the same day the AAP chief is scheduled to file his nomination for upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. The step was taken after Upadhyay had filed a complaint against Kejriwal for making "false, baseless and unverified allegations" against him.
Earlier on Thursday, the AAP chief had said that the party would be presenting evidence to prove its allegations against Upadhyay.
Upadhyay had threatened to sue Kejriwal over power discom allegations earlier on Wednesday. Kejriwal has alleged that the former's companies had supplied electric meters to Anil Ambani-group controlled power utility BSES and that the party was soft on discoms indulging in corruption.
