Oliver Stone will be adapting Guardian journalist Luke Harding's book about Edward Snowden's role in exposing the NSA's surveillance culture.

The Oscar winning director's thriller film will focus on the experiences of Snowden, a contractor at the National Security Agency who leaked thousands of classified documents to the former Guardian columnist Glenn Greenwald back in June 2013, the Guardian reported.

The 67-year-old director said that this is one of the greatest stories of our time and a real challenge, and that he is glad to have the publication working with them.

Stone's previous films include 'Platoon', 'JFK' and 'W'.
