The Jammu Police on Thursday conducted an exercise aimed at increasing the efficiency and mobility of the force, with the ultimate motive to address public grievances speedily.

"This is an effort to increase the efficiency and the mobility of police stations. This is a part of modernisation of the police force and we received the funds for this from the Home Ministry," Jammu Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra told the media.

"What this will do is drastically reduce the response time by the police in case of any untoward incident and our objective is to provide mobility up to the chowki level so that public grievances can be immediately attended to," he added.

Assuring that the situation at the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border is under control, Rajendra further stated that all preparations are on for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.

"As far as preparations for Republic Day are concerned, the security forces at the borders are alert. Night patrolling and area domination is underway and wherever suspicious activities are taking place, the police are conducting raids," he said.

"At the moment, the situation at the border is under control and people have been moved to safer areas. The forces at the first, second and third lines of defence are alert and we will make sure that any infiltration bid is foiled," he added.

The New Year has seen a number of incidents of violation of the ceasefire agreement by Pakistan along the LoC and the International Border. Border outposts have been targeted and villagers in the areas have been evacuated to safer areas by the security forces.
