Stringent efforts are being made to save the endangered breed of Himalayan Cow at a conservation centre here.
Locally known as 'Pahari Gai', the centre in Sunni area, which is 45 kilometers from Shimla, is doing their bit in saving the breed.
"The milk of the Himalayan cow prevents cancer disease. Its urine cures many diseases. We wish to purify it and make it available in the market which will help people. And its dung is also good. Today, we use urea for fertilisers and it is ruining the soil. We want the Himalayan cow's dung to be used instead and it will farm production in a big way," said a volunteer at the conservation centre, Jyotiprakash Sharma.
Sharma mentioned that the centre is planning to aware farmers about the benefits of the cow, who often abandon the breed on account of low milk production.
The volunteers are also seeking the help of the government and have demanded a bigger centre that could encompass more number of cows and thereby increase the breed.
They believe that more conservation centers should be opened along with veterinary centers at different parts of the state with the help of provincial government.
