Egyptian authorities have remanded three journalists working for the Al-Jazeera English television network in custody for 15 days.
The authorities have accused the three men of promoting the objectives of ousted President Mohammed Morsi's banned group Muslim Brotherhood, possessing broadcasting equipment without a licence, and broadcasting false news that undermines the national interest and public security and spreads fear among the people, the BBC reports.
The three journalists arrested include Peter Greste, an Australian former BBC journalist, the TV network's Cairo bureau chief Mohamed Fadel Fahmy, and producer Baher Mohamed.
However, a cameraman who was also arrested on Sunday, along with these three journalists, has been released.
According to the report, the detention could be extended, if formal charges are brought.
The Muslim Brotherhood was declared a terrorist organisation last week.
