An Egyptian man has set a new Guinness World Record for the deepest scuba dive by diving more than 1,000 feet below the surface of the Red Sea.
According to Guinness World Records, the 41-year-old man, Ahmed Gabr, said that he decided to dive deeper than any person had before to prove that humans could survive the conditions of deep-sea immersion, Discovery News reported.
Gabr dove off the coast of Dahab, Egypt and reached a depth of 1,090 feet 4 inches, breaking the record previous held by Nuno Gomes of South Africa, who reached a depth of 1,044 feet.
