A jihadist group that has attacked security forces in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula several times has reportedly pledged its allegiance to the Islamic State (IS).
Ansar Beit al-Maqdis made the announcement on Twitter and remarked that the group has promised "a new dawn raising the banner of monotheism." While promising to "listen and obey" him, the group also urged Muslims everywhere to pledge their loyalties to the terror group, reported the BBC.
The group had denied its alliance with the IS last week using the same Twitter account. The recent announcement by the group however, made no reference of the previous denial but said that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi had been chosen by God to set up a new caliphate.
The IS has captured large parts of territory in Syria and Iraq, declaring a cross-border caliphate.
