Eighth phase of LS polls to see contest for 64 seats

The eighth phase of Lok Sabha elections will be held on Wednesday.

Polling for 64 constituencies spread across seven states will begin at 7 a.m. and continue till 6 p.m. except in sensitive pockets of Bihar, where it will end at 4 p.m.

The constituencies going to polls are in Andhra Pradesh (25), Bihar (7), Himachal Pradesh (4), Jammu and Kashmir (2), Uttar Pradesh (15), Uttarakhand (5) and West Bengal (6).

Also, 175 Assembly constituencies located in the Seemandhra region of Andhra Pradesh will have polls on Wednesday.

The major battle will be in Amethi where Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and BJP candidate Smriti Irani are contesting against each other.

Apart from Rahul, BJP leader Varun Gandhi, who is contesting from Sultanpuri, LJP President Ramvilas Paswan, who is contesting from Hajipur, Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad's wife Rabri Devi, who is seeking to make her debut in the Lok Sabha from Saran, are other important leaders in the fray.

Rabri Devi is pitted against BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
