In what looks like an honest remark, comedienne Amy Schumer has branded anyone who doesn't subscribe to feminism as "insane".
The TV star, in an interview with BBC Newsnight's Emily Maitlis, branded women who dissent from the school of thought as ignorant. The show will air this evening, reports the Mirror.
"I think anyone who is not a feminist is an insane person," she declared. "I think they don't know what feminism means."
As opposed to how most of the female celebrity stars including Meryl Streep, Sarah Jessica Parker, PJ Harvey, Madonna, Bjork, Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue and Katy Perry, argue feminism as a movement that frequently ignores men's issues, the 35-year-old 'Inside Amy Schumer' star strongly identifies with the word.
Schumer is currently in the UK as part of a standup comedy tour. The actress is reported to have said that she is also comfortable being described as both a feminist and a comedian.
"It just means equality for women. But I think that word has a whole different meaning for different people. So someone will say to me: 'You're not a feminist are you?'... Of course I am. Of course I want equal rights for women.... Feminism is just about women having social, political and economic equality," she said.
"I feel very comfortable speaking about myself as a comedian and a feminist because those are two things that I completely am. Those are two words that definitely define me," added Schumer.
