Amid the ongoing furore over the appointment of Bollywood star Salman Khan as the goodwill ambassador of the Indian contingent for the upcoming Rio Games, the under-fire Indian Olympic Association has approached cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar for the same post.
The IOA's decision to make the 50-year-old actor as goodwill ambassador left the sporting fraternity divided with London Olympics bronze-medallist Yogeshwar Dutt and legendary sprinter Milkha Singh questioning the move.
Meanwhile, those in support of Salman believe that his selection would give a glamour quotient to the Indian team's presence at the Olympics and would also help in drawing maximum attention from the masses for the Games.
However, Tendulkar has not given any reply yet.
According to reports, the IOA is planning to rope in two more celebrities from the field of music and sports alongside Salman for the same post.
