Hollywood actress Emma Thompson believes that 'sexism' in acting business is worse than ever.

The 56-year-old Oscar-winner has joined other female stars including Maggie Gyllenhaal and Helen Mirren in criticising sexism in showbiz and said that the world was in a worse state since she had known it to be, particularly for women, the Guardian reported.

Thompson expressed her feelings by saying when she was younger she used to think that they were on way to a better world and when she looked at it now, it had deteriorated and she finds it very disturbing and sad.

Giving example of James Bond films, she said that everyone has seen the films and as the lead got "more and more geriatric, his girlfriends got younger and younger. It's so annoying."

It was all a complete shit, she added.

She hence talks to as many young female performers as she can and their conversations focus on how nothing had changed, and that some forms of sexism and unpleasantness to women had become more entrenched and prevalent.

Thompson, 56, who stars as a 77-year-old prostitute in her latest project, 'The Legend of Barney Thomson', opposite co-star Robert Carlyle, who is also the film's director, said that she took the role wildly comic and she couldn't resist, but added that it would have been nice if someone that age played the part.
