Congress party leader and former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajiv Shukla on Thursday said that in the list of 30 probables for the upcoming cricket World Cup in 2015, a lot of young players and budding talent have been given a chance.

"Selecting or dropping of players is the prerogative of the selectors. Lot of young players and budding talent have been given a chance. Selectors have made a combination of players keeping the conditions in mind," said Shukla when asked to comment on the omission of five senior players in the squad.

Earlier in the day, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named its 30-member probable squad for the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Senior players Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh - all of whom were part of the 2011 World Cup winning squad - have been axed, with the emphasis on young talent.
