England cricket legend Basil D'Oliveira's son Damian D'Oliveira, who was the director of Warwickshire's academy, has passed away at the age of 53, the county confirmed on Sunday.
Damian had been battling cancer for the last two-and-a-half years.
According to Sport24, a statement on the county's official website said that the players were informed of the news of Damian's death shortly before the start of the County Championship match with Glamorgan at New Road.
Damian, who had played for Worcestershire between 1982 and 1995 and scored more than 9 000 first-class runs, had overseen the introduction of a number of talented players, including his son Brett, into the first team at New Road as an academy director.
Damian's father Basil, who was born in South Africa but moved to England as he was not eligible to play for Sough Africa under Apartheid regulations, passed away at the age of 80 in November 2011 after a long battle against Parkinson's disease, the report added.
