Former Australian player Glenn McGrath has said that England had won the Ashes series because they backed themselves in difficult situations even when not all players were in form.
According to McGrath's column published in The Guardian, England was now used to winning and that was what helped them get victory on Monday evening even though Australia was cruising in their victory chase of 299.
The former player said that the Australian team he was part of had a certain aura, which had teams beaten even before they walked on the field, adding that England were not at that stage but after 12 Tests without defeat, they had the necessary confidence.
McGrath praised Bell for the ability to adapt the way he plays, and said that it enabled him to score runs for England regardless of the conditions.
