Although the Muslims of Srinagar have gathered on Monday to offer Eid prayers, the enthusiasm is however less due to the floods that ravaged the state last month.
A person from Srinagar, who had come for prayers, said, "The Muslims of Kashmir celebrate this to honour Prophet Ibrahim, we also offer sacrifice today. The enthusiasm of Eid is lesser than what it used to be due to the floods in the state. We are grateful to 'Allah' that despite the suffering due to floods we have been able to celebrate the festival in a descent enough way."
Ahmed Kazi from Srinagar said, "This is a festival of sacrifice, we are going to offer prayers to 'Allah'. We will ask for his blessings and guidance."
Meanwhile, Congress Party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir, said, "People in Kashmir have been badly affected due to floods, we are not celebrating Eid this year."
People in most parts of the country have begun to offer special Eid-ul-Azha prayers on Monday. However, in some places like Kerala Eid was celebrated on Sunday.
