Union Minister Prakash Javadekar today said that the Environment Ministry is planning to ease norms for strategic defence projects within 100 km from the Line of Actual Control (India's border with China) to enable faster permissions and simplification.

The Information and Broadcasting Minister said that the benefit is for 100kms but a proposal has been prepared for the widening of the linkages of the border roads that connects it.

He said "instead of case by case delayed method of approval we are making it simpler, predictable, and policy based decision."

He said that only after appraising PM Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley about the issue will the process be complete.

Javadekar, who also holds the portfolio of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister, said that decisions will be made on this issue which is going to be put up in general approval, asserting that there have also been talks about afforestation, which is compensatory.

Javaderkar said that the Forest conservation act approval will be covered under the scheme of general approval.

He said that general approval means that approval can be granted by the state governments.
