Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi on Tuesday said that any person holding a powerful position in the country should show respect for all religions as their mindset impacted a lot of people.
"Our constitution says that anyone holding power must have equal respect for all the religions. Any minister should not have such a mindset. If anyone puts on a rosary, they don't become Christians. It is about giving equal respect to all religions," said Joshi.
An FIR has been filed against Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Chief Pravin Togadia for his alleged hate speech on Saturday where he reportedly said that Muslims should be stopped from buying property in Hindu-majority areas.
Togadia has, however, denied making any such remarks and said that all this was a conspiracy against him.
The election commission sought a tape of his speech.
