Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that efforts to promote birth control are "treason" and that it causes an entire generation to "dry up".
According to News24, Erdogan's comments came on Sunday at the wedding of the son of a businessman Mustafa Kefeli, one of his close allies.
He said that having one or two children was not enough and that the nation needs a more dynamic youth.
Erdogan also said that using birth control was a betrayal of Turkey's ambition to make itself a prosperous nation.
Erdogan said earlier in a speech that women were not equal to men and declared that every woman should have at least three children.
The Turkish President has also made proposals that limit the use of birth controls, Caesarian sections and the morning-after pill.
