The European Union has reportedly initiated a naval operation to stop human traffickers from bringing migrants across the Mediterranean to Europe in dangerous boats.
For now, the operation will be limited to international waters and airspace until the EU secured permission to enter the Libyan territory, The Washington Post reported.
Over 100,000 migrants have entered Europe so far this year, with at least 2,000 killed or missing while trying to reach the continent. Dozens of boats leave Libya each week, with Italy and Greece bearing the brunt of the surge.
