France star striker Oliver Giroud has expressed that his side will be out to avenge their disappointing World Cup loss when they will take on Germany in the mouth-watering Euro 2016 semifinal clash on Friday.

France were beaten by eventual champions Germany 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil two years ago.

Reflecting on the upcoming titanic tussle, the Arsenal forward said Germany will be the favourites for the game, but insisted that his side have 'a lot of desire' to erase memories of the World Cup defeat, the Mirror reported.

Giroud scored a brace as hosts France produced a scintillating performance in their 5-2 rout of minnows Iceland in the European Championship on Monday.

France have not beaten the Germans in a competitive fixture since 1958, but Giroud believes home support will play a massive factor when they will attempt to alter the wretched record.

"I hope the French public are as excitable in the stadium as they were tonight, and they support us all the way. We play a Euros semi-final in front of a home crowd. I'm proud of what we're achieving. I hope we come out with the right result once again," Giroud said after the quarterfinal win over Iceland.

Meanwhile, French coach Didier Deschamps also admitted that Germany are the best side but added that his side are ready to give their best against the world champions.
