A new report suggests that the ongoing political crisis in Europe is the biggest risk to be faced by the world in the year 2015.

According to Express.co.uk, continued friction among European Union states is rated as a higher problem than even the violent threat of the so-called Islamic State and Russia's actions in the Ukraine.

Ian Bremmer, founder of New York-based Eurasia Group, who published the list, said that for the first time since starting the firm in 1998, he was starting to feel a serious undercurrent of geopolitical foreboding.

The group took into account the worsening political scenario in Europe and the falling euro prices before placing it in the top slot of the list.

The list also included the weaponisation of finance, the underwhelming political victories of several countries and growing concerns surrounding Turkey.

Below are the top geopolitical risks of 2015:

1. The politics of Europe

2. Russia

3. The effects of China slowdown

4. Weaponisation of finance

5. ISIS, beyond Iraq and Syria

6. Weak incumbents

7. The rise of strategic sectors

8. Saudi Arabia vs. Iran

9. Taiwan/China
