The nominations for the 27th European Film Awards 2014 include Andrei Zvyagintsev's Leviathan, Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Winter Sleep and Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac among the five nominees for the best European film honor, it has been revealed.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Pawel Pawlikowski's 'Ida,' which got the most nominations in major categories and Force Majeure from Sweden's Ruben Ostlund would also be competing at the event.
In the past two years, the winner of the best picture honor at the European Film Awards went on to win the Oscar for best foreign-language film. In 2014, that was Italy's 'The Great Beauty,' following Austria's 'Amour' the year before.
Marion Cotillard, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Tom Hardy, Stellan Skarsgard and Timothy Spall are among the big-name acting nominees for European Film Awards honors. 'Ida' got five major nominations, including for actresses Agata Kulesza and Agata Trzebuchowska, followed by 'Leviathan's' four.
The European Film Awards ceremony will be handed out in Riga, Latvia on Dec. 13.
