'Everybody Loves Raymond' star Doris Roberts passes away at 90

Popularly known for her role in sitcom 'Everybody Loves Raymond,' actress Doris Roberts has recently passed away. She was 90.

Roberts played the beloved mother in show, which ran for nine seasons from 1996 to 2005. She won five Emmy Awards through her career, four of them for that much-loved role as Marie Barone, reports News.com.au.

It is being reported that the veteran actress passed away in Los Angeles on April 17. She's survived by her son, Michael Cannata Jr, from her first marriage.

As soon as the news of her demise came out, her on-screen sons on the show, Ray Romano and Brad Garrett, gave tributes to their former cast-mate.

Romano said in a statement, "Doris Roberts had an energy and a spirit that amazed me. She never stopped. Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor, she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly."

Roberts' career began in 1952 and spanned dozens of films and television shows, including appearances on 'Remington Steele,' 'Cagney and Lacey' and an Emmy-winning guest role on primetime drama 'St. Elsewhere.
