Former New Zealand player and coach Grant Bradburn has reportedly been appointed as the head coach of the national cricket team of Scotland.

Bradburn, who recently coached the New Zealand A and New Zealand Under-19 teams following his stint as a domestic coach, will replace Peter Steindl, who stepped down after Scotland's failure at the World Twenty20 qualifying tournament last year.

According to Stuff.co.nz, Bradburn will also take charge of Scotland's elite player development programme and is contracted until 2017, including the next Intercontinental Cup for associate nations hoping to play Test cricket.

Expressing his honour at the appointment, Bradburn, who played seven Tests and 11 ODIs between 1990 and 2001, said that he is thrilled at the prospect of working with a nation trying so hard to build on recent success, adding that he will focus sharply on continuing Scotland's progress towards being a leading force in world cricket.

Bradburn also said that as a coach, it presents a great opportunity to add value, by driving continual improvement, building depth with healthy competition for Scottish representation, adding that Scotland has performed well by qualifying for the 2015 World Cup, to be played at venues that he is very familiar with.
