Former Manchester United goalkeeper Fabien Barthez has reportedly become the star of motor racing after being crowned champion of France's GT motorsport series.
The former footballer, who belongs to the side Sofrev ASP, and his teammate Morgan Moullin-Traffort had finished fifth and eight respectively in the last two races of the championship's concluding weekend at the Paul Ricard circuit near Marseille.
According to Metro.co.uk, the victory, which was boosted by two wins and four podium finishes throughout the season, led Barthez to claim the title with a total of 174 points, which is 21 points ahead of nearest rivals, including nine-time world rally champion Sebastian Loeb.
The report mentioned that former French international Barthez, who took up motor racing shortly after retiring from football in 2007, said that he has always been intrigued and fascinated by motorsport, adding that he had to wait until the end of his professional football career to try it.
