Former Prime Minister of Nepal Madhav Kumar met India's Foreign Secretary, Ranjan Mathai, and discussed strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Madhav Kumar, a senior Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) leader, who is accompanied by UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel and his former Foreign Affairs Adviser Rajan Bhattarai, is also scheduled to hold meetings with senior Indian politicians during his visit.
He is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi, on July 26.
India's foreign minister, Salman Khurshid will call on the visiting dignitary and host a luncheon meeting in his honour. Madhav Kumar is also scheduled to address a special programme at Nalanda University.
The visit is the part of the Indian government's policy to expand talks and consultations with the Nepali political parties to further strengthen bilateral relations. Nepal is scheduled to go to polls on Nov 19.
