Former Magpies striker Nile Ranger intends to deny a rape charge at Newcastle's Tyne Crown Court, after being alleged to have attacked a girl at a hotel in January.
According to The Daily Star, Judge John Evans said the former England Under 19 international intended to plead not guilty while Ranger's alleged victim claims she was attacked at a budget hotel in Jesmond, Newcastle.
Ranger, of Haringey, north London, was bailed until October 21 and was told his trial will take place in January, the report said.
The striker, who made more than 50 appearances for Newcastle United and is still seeking a club, has also been ordered to surrender his passport, the report added.
