Former Australian Test captain Mark Taylor is reportedly set to make a return to the Cricket Australia (CA) board, after he was controversially overlooked when the body was streamlined to a new nine-member board.

The long-serving CA board member lost his position as one of three new independent directors last September when the board was stripped back to include only one director from each of the six states as part of a restructure that began earlier in 2012, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

However, the report added that an historic change of the constitution at Cricket New South Wales (NSW) board level has allowed Taylor to return to the national panel via NSW despite no longer sitting on the board.

According to the report, the move is a progressive one, given that under the CA reform structure the national board is expected to be fully independent by 2015.

The appointment of Taylor, who played 104 Tests for Australia between 1989 and 1999, is set to be announced on Friday, the report added.
