Expelled Kashmiri students of Rohtak Institute of Management and Engineering held a hunger strike at the Jantar Mantar here today.
They expressed disappointment at being denied the Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) and were struck off from the rolls of the college and the hostel.
"Under PMSSS, we were given admission to the institution. Now, we have been suddenly struck off from both the college and the hostel. Our struggle is against oppressive university authorities who have asked us to pay fees from our own pockets in the middle of the semester, when the Indian Government had promised us full time scholarships because they knew we would not be able to pay such high expenses", said a Kashmiri student.
"The PMO has been sent a memorandum. The Chief Minister (CM) of Jammu and Kashmir Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani have also been intimated, but there has been no response. Earlier, when PDP President Mehbooba Mufti had tried to raise this issue with Smriti Irani during Zero Hour, Smritiji had said that a decision will be taken in favour of the students. We want to question her now on that promise made", he added.
The strike has been held to meet with a permanent solution to these grievances.
