An internationally respected oceanographer has said that the search for missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 could take decades or even centuries before it is discovered on the bottom of the southern Indian Ocean.
According to News.com.au, Erik van Sebille said that the plane is a "tiny speck" in comparison to the vast ocean.
He added that the Boeing 777 would take decades or centuries like many other missing ships and planes before we stumble upon it.
The underwater search passed the halfway mark this week with 30,000 square kilometres of sea floor searched in the priority search area.
Sebille also said that we know more about the surface of the Mars than we do about the bottom of the Indian Ocean.
