A new study has revealed that kids who eat breakfast and dinner with their parents on a regular basis are less prone to obesity and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The research found that children who ate breakfast with their parents five to seven times per week were as much as 40 per cent less likely to be overweight than those who had family breakfast just two to three times a week, the Independent reported.

However, the result was a little varied in the case of dinners, where 30 percent children were less likely to be obese who ate together more regularly and totally opposite in the case of lunch where in fact they were more likely to be overweight.

Dr Gavin Sandercock, senior lecturer in clinical physiology at the University of Essex said that eating together as a family seems to be more helpful, so doing it regularly should be encouraged.

Eating dinner together is probably a marker of family cohesion and organization, he added.
