External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid who is on an official visit to Saudi Arabia on Sunday termed the Maoist attacks on Congress leaders in Chattisgarh as a threat to humanity.

Speaking exclusively to ANI Khurshid said: This is a big, big tragedy as they were great, brave leaders. This just shouldn't have happened. I am not too sure of the happenings as different versions are coming in. This is an act of cold-blooded brutality and serious thinking needs to be put in. All the state governments should work in collaboration with eachother to eradicate this menace.

Khurshid further said, " My heart goes out to families whose loved ones have been killed. We can only take actions once we stop fighting among ourselves."

Meanwhile, the Centre today said a high-level inquiry will be conducted into the attack on Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh to find out lapses, if any, in security measures and to fix responsibility.

"Buck has to be stopped somewhere. So many people were killed and injured. We have to take action," Union Minister of State for Home R.P.N Singh said.

Earlier today, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani today visited Congress leader V. C. Shukla, who was critical after being shot during a Maoist attack, at a hospital near here.
