India is reportedly inching closer to overtake the US on Facebook in terms of number of active users as the country crossed the 100 million bar as of March 31.
India is now reportedly the only country where Facebook can aspire to have one billion users due to a growing base of Internet users, which is currently around 200 million, and the increasing number of mobile phone subscribers in the nation's over 1.23 billion population.
According to TechCrunch, vice-president of growth and analytics at Facebook, Javier Olivan, said that getting one billion users in India would be a different challenge altogether.
Although India had been reportedly expected to become Facebook's biggest market in terms of number of users later this year, it will always be difficult to translate that into ad dollars for the Palo Alto based company anytime soon.
Facebook had launched its first India office in Hyderabad in 2010 when its user base was less than 10 million and now has over 100 million users currently in the country, the report added.
