Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday reprimanded the Mumbai Traffic Police for stalled movement of public vehicles after its personnel stopped traffic in the city to make way his convoy.

"At around 7 pm I had given clear instructions to DCP traffic police to speed up the traffic as it was moving very slow and insisted that traffic shouldn't be stopped for me. If the traffic has been stopped despite this then it is wrong. I have asked the police to submit a report of this incident, we will take action after studying the report," Fadnavis said at a press conference here.

"I have said this from the very beginning: traffic shouldn't be stopped because of me. Traffic can only be stopped if there is some sort of emergency or if there some perception of threat. This is what is being followed, traffic is not stopped when I go out in Mumbai or even in Nagpur," he added.

According to reports, traffic policemen outside the NSCI club in Mumbai stopped vehicles to make way for his convoy on Sunday.

Following the incident, Chief Minister Fadnavis, took to twitter and expressed his apologies for the inconvenience caused due to stopping of traffic.

"My sincere apologies to those who were stopped by police unnecessarily. People in the state have always seen me stopping at traffic signals," CM Fadnavis tweeted.

"I don't believe in VIP culture. Unless there is emergency or real threat perception inputs police shouldn't trouble the people," he said in another tweet.
