Kurt Cobain's widow Courtney Love and daughter pushing a Seattle judge not to release death-scene photos and records to public.

An Independent journalist Richard Lee is suing the City of Seattle and its police department, in order to make the pictures public, that he claims will prove the Nirvana frontman was murdered, Stuff.co.nz reported.

According to Lee, it would provide evidence that the late music star's death in 1994wasn't due to self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Judge Theresa Doyle is set to hear arguments on Friday (local time) over whether to proceed with a trial.

However, the City of Seattle has argued that documents should be kept private for the sake of the family's privacy and Courtney Love, and their daughter Frances Bean Cobain have also written to the court about the physical and psychological impact that the release of the graphic photos would "cause us indescribable pain".

According to their statements, neither woman has seen the photos of Cobain's body.
