Family members of the missing Malaysia Airline flight MH370's captain and suspect Zaharie Ahmad Shah have reportedly spoken in defense of the veteran pilot.

According to News.com.au, Zaharie's brother-in-law, Asuad Khan, denied the 53-year-old was experiencing personal problems, had been upset about politics or that he was unfit to fly on March 8.

He also refuted claims that the pilot's marriage was on the rocks following an alleged affair and said that as Muslim he was entitled to have multiple girlfriends outside of marriage.

Khan denied reports that his sister Faizah had left Zaharie, and took their children to another house, before Zaharie left for his last flight.

He also said Zaharie had not that day attended the trial of Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, which some reports suggested proved he had been radicalised and had hijacked the plane in an act of terror, the report said.
