The Haryana Government on Wednesday ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident of a Dalit family being burnt in Sunpedh, a village near Faridabad, and suspended the eight police erring police officials.

"On the basis of preliminary investigation, four people have been arrested. Because of the seriousness of the incident, we have formed a Special Investigation Team which consists of officers from all levels," said Haryana Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Mohammad Akil.

"We have suspended three police officers considering that there was some laxity. Also, the officials who were in the PCR which was supposed to be here have been suspended. The SHO, who was related to this case, has also been suspended," he added.

The ADGP also assured that the probe in this case would be completed at the earliest.

"Justice delayed is justice denied, surely. But justice hurried is justice buried. Thus, the investigation will take time. But we will do it fast," he added.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had yesterday condemned the incident and announced Rs. 10 lakh interim financial assistance to members of bereaved families.

Residents of Sunpedh village where two kids of a Dalit family were allegedly burnt alive by upper-caste Rajputs blocked the Faridabad-Ballabhgarh highway today, demanding the arrest of the perpetrators.
