The farmers in Haryana staged a protest here on Saturday against low paddy prices and demanded that the rates should be revised.

The farmers accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre for exploiting the farmers and showed black flags to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who was in Yamuna Nagar for an election rally.

"Our protest is that, after BJP assuming power, paddy is being sold for the first time. The paddy which was sold between rupees 4000 to 4500 is now being sold for rupees 2200 to 3000. Our demand to the government is that the concerned agencies in Haryana and Punjab should do justice," said Gurnam Singh Chadhuti, the leader of farmers union.

Reportedly, the BJP had promised the farmers that they will implement Swaminathan Commission but have not taken any steps in this regard.

The National Commission on Farmers (NCF) or Swaminathan Commission is a scheme for the development of farmers and agriculture in India.
